IT and comms relocation
Rack decant, anti-static transport, re-rack, patch and a documented first boot.
- 1 RU · Manifest granularity
- Perth metro and interstate

Why this is its own work package
The comms room decides the whole weekend. If the network is not testable by Sunday lunchtime, no amount of furniture in the right place makes Monday work.
Coastline moves comms rooms as a separate work package, sequenced ahead of the furniture, with your IT team or managed service provider owning the logical cutover and our crew owning the physical one.
What is included
Everything below is in the base project price unless the proposal says otherwise.
Pre-move rack audit
Every rack is photographed front and rear and documented to the rack unit: device, RU position, power feed, patch destinations and serial number.
Labelled decommission
Cables are labelled at both ends before removal. Patch leads are bagged per panel. Rail kits, cage nuts and power leads stay with their device.
Anti-static crating
Servers, switches and UPS units travel in foam-lined anti-static crates. Full racks travel upright on air-ride suspension with ratchet restraint, never on their side.
Comms room readiness check
Before anything moves we check the destination room: rack RU availability, three-phase or single-phase supply, UPS runtime, HVAC capacity, floor loading and cable pathway.
Re-rack and repatch
Devices are re-racked to the agreed elevation drawing and patched to the new panel schedule. Your team owns power-on order and configuration.
Handover pack
You receive the before and after rack photos, the device manifest, the patch schedule and any cabling test results provided by the cabler.
How it runs
Joint planning session
Coastline, your IT lead and the cabler agree the cutover window, the power-on order and who signs off each stage.
Destination readiness
We confirm the comms room is built, powered, cooled and cabled. If it is not, we say so in writing before the shutdown, not during it.
Last backup, then power down
Your team confirms the final backup. Devices are shut down in order and we begin the physical decant.
Transport
Direct run, no consolidation with other clients, GPS tracked, two-person custody with a signed manifest at both ends.
Re-rack and patch
Racks are landed, levelled and bolted. Devices go back to the elevation drawing. Patching follows the new schedule.
First boot and test
Your team powers on and tests. We stay on site until sign-off so anything physical can be corrected immediately.
What drives the price
Commercial work is quoted as a project price, so these are the variables a relocation manager measures on the site survey.
- Rack count and fill
- A half-populated 42 RU rack and a full one are very different jobs. We price on device count and RU fill, not on rack count alone.
- Live equipment
- Anything that must stay powered, such as a UPS or a recording appliance, needs a separate plan and usually a temporary unit.
- Destination readiness
- Rooms that are not cabled, cooled or powered on move weekend are the single most common cause of a blown window.
- Telco lead times
- Enterprise Ethernet and fibre services commonly need 20 to 40 business days from order. Book early; we cannot compress a carrier order.
- Floor loading
- Loaded racks can exceed 800 kg. Suspended slabs and raised floors need a loading check before the rack lands.
- Out-of-hours access
- Comms rooms in shared buildings often have their own after-hours access process, separate from the tenancy.
All figures quoted across this site are sample placeholders for a demonstration website. A real proposal follows a site survey of both tenancies.
Questions we get asked first
No. We own the physical move: decant, transport, re-rack and patch to an agreed schedule. Your IT team or managed service provider owns configuration, DNS, firewall rules and the logical cutover. Splitting it this way keeps responsibility clear.
Active equipment travels in foam-lined anti-static crates inside a pantech with air-ride suspension. Full racks travel upright, strapped to the vehicle wall, on their own run with no other consignment on board.
We tell you in writing after the readiness check and propose options: a staged move with a temporary link, short-term storage of the racks, or moving the shutdown date. We do not land racks in a room without power or cooling.
A two-rack room with around 40 devices usually runs 6 to 9 hours from power-down to patched and ready for first boot, as a sample range. Larger rooms are staged across the Friday night and Saturday morning.
